Breaking news! Read now! (or…whenever)
Posted By Ing on July 15, 2008
Two breaking news items–things you need to know NOW. (Not that you will, because even if you read it in time, it won’t be now, precisely; besides, at this point I’m lucky anybody stops by here at all.)
Anyway…
Item 1
Remember how in my last post, from this morning, I said I wanted to have time to relax while eating my microwaved chimi for lunch?
I didn’t. (Have time to relax while eating my chimichanga, that is.)
Matter of fact, I didn’t even get to try eating the damn thing until about 3:45, and then it took me almost until 5 to chew through it one precious, stress-laden gulp at a time between phone calls from the clients in event planning and to the publishing vendor; while checking proofs against each other; after talking to clients, designers, and the art director; before going down the hall to pick up printouts and send a fax; and of course, while typing emails (I get lots of practice at that).
Ah, that chimichanga. The highlight of my day.
Item 2
Here I go, violating the first rule of web copy again, making my audience wait till the end, after they’ve probably given up in disgust, for the most important part of my message. (Ah, but the rulemakers didn’t say anything about how to write when you have no audience. Ha! Where are your precious rules now, eh?)
What I REALLY wanted to say is that Rush–the band, not the bulbous bloviator–is going to be on the Colbert Report Wednesday, July 16, at 11:30 ET…or, in the only time zone that matters (mine), 8:30 Pacific. (Right now that’s tomorrow; by the time you read this, it’ll probably be last week.)
An AP article about the Rush gig on Colbert says that it’ll be the first time since 1975 that Rush has played on American TV.
So not only is it a historic performance by one of the best live bands–one of the best bands, period–in rock-n-roll, it’s on the Colbert Report, which is reliably hilarious, and hands-down one of the best shows on TV.
Even if you don’t get Comedy Central or if (more likely) you don’t read this post in time, look it up on YouTube later this week (but before it gets yanked for copyright violation). Rush fans can get geeked up for anything the band does, and I bet there’s at least one Rush nerd who’ll copy the performance, if not the whole Colbert episode, and post it somewhere (I’d copy it, but I’m too lame).
Or you could try the official route and catch the episode on the Colbert Report website instead; they show past episodes there.
You owe it to yourself to see this. (Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you do somehow.)
SWEET! Rush is really great live. I don’t get Comedy Central, though. I’ll have to try to find the show somewhere else.
It’s funny that you posted that VodPod video of Troy Tiptun shredding on the bass. I just got Zero Hour’s new CD and was going to blog about it soon. There’s a track on there that I think is the exact same solo shred you posted. I have never EVER heard anyone play the bass that fast. It totally blows my mind.
Ah, I need to get that CD. I meant to get it back when it was on preorder, but decided to wait till it was officially released…and then ran out of money. :( I’d be interested to know what you think about it.
The Colbert Report episode with Rush up on the show’s website at http://www.comedycentral.com/colbertreport/index.jhtml front and center. Can’t miss it. (Unless they cycle it back into the archives, in which case the link to the past episodes is in the upper right of the page.)
