Vampire cats and paper rats

These are two pretty cool things. They have a nice ring together, don’t you think? If you’re the creative storytelling type, they’re just rife with possibilities.
And it is their rifeness that brings them here.
Alas, it is not my imagination nor my storytelling in which the possibilities with which vampire cats and paper rats are so rife have come to fruition. But huzzah! The possibilities with which they are so rife have been realized by some very creative storytelling people — and even though I wish I had been clever and creative and motivated enough to have done these things myself and I’m very envious, I’m proud to say I’m at least acquainted (a little bit) with some of the people who have done them.
Okay, enough of the rifeness and the huzzahs and the general awkwardness. On to the real reasons for this post.
VAMPIRE CATS
In the Vampire Kitty-cat Chronicles (available on Amazon and elsewhere), Ray Rhamey, proprietor of the litblog Flogging the Quill, introduces us to Patch, the world’s first and only vampire cat.
The story is told by Patch, an opinionated and independent-minded feline who insists Ray is only his typist, and who pretty well has life by the tail. Until a starving vampire snags him by the tail and initiates him into the ranks of the undead, that is, and Patch discovers that the vampire’s life isn’t all it’s cracked up to be; in fact, death kind of sucks. But then he gets mixed up in politics, and death starts to get downright dangerous… The pace is fast, there’s lots of action, and the humor quotient is pretty high, too; I laughed out loud in several spots, and spent nearly the whole time with a grin and a chuckle never far away. It’s lighthearted, but doesn’t pull too many punches (the satire bites satisfyingly deep sometimes). All in all, a quick, fresh, and most importantly, fun read.
PAPER RATS
Paper Rats isn’t a story: it’s people. (Soylent Green is people! But Paper Rats is people in a much better way.)
It’s comprised of two novelists/bloggers — RJ Keller, proprietor of the ingeniously titled Ingenious Title to Appear Here Later, and Kristen Tsetsi, proprietor of From a Little Office in a Little House — and Paper Rats is their foray into the realm of video. Their first video, a short bit titled Raving Reviews, hit both the truth and my funny bone. If you want to see why, watch the video on their blogs or on the Paper Rats YouTube channel.
Hi! Thanks so much for linking to our video. I’m glad you enjoyed it! We had a lot of fun making it.
Thanks a heap for your nice words about my vampire kitty-cat. Mil gracias!
Thanks for the plug, Ing!!
I read the first chapter or so of the vampire kitty-cat story. Hilarious!
